Note: A basic understanding of quantum mechanics and solid state physics will be helpful, but not required.
Understanding quasiparticle dynamics in monolayer semiconductors is of great interest to the study of valleytronics, which has applications in fields such as quantum computing, and nanoscale optoelectronics. Monolayers of certain materials have interesting properties such as strong electron-hole interactions, making it a viable place to study quasiparticles such as excitons and trions.
This talk will start from the basics of 2D materials and quantum wells. We will then proceed to discuss quasiparticles, followed by experimental techniques (streak camera and momentum-resolved spectroscopy) that can be used to capture and study their kinetics (order of ps to fs).
