Note: This session features brief, insightful talks of 25 mins each from early-stage BS-MS students, showcasing their summer projects.

1. Tau & Jet Analysis and Fake Rate Calculation by Shweta Shankar
High Energy Physics

Tau leptons and jets have very similar signatures in the particle detectors, which often leads to the misidentification of one as the other, and further leads to an incorrect understanding of the type of interaction between particles. So, part of my project aimed to analyze Taus and Jets, and the other, to find the rate at which a Jet fakes a Tau, and also, how changing certain factors would increase that Fake Rate.

2. Trying out different cut-based Bottom Quark-Jet Tagging algorithms by Meghana Ajith
High Energy Physics

This talk aims to discuss how algorithms based on cuts in different jet properties perform in identifying Bottom quark jets from other types of jets by exploring different ranges and layers of signal to background ratios and preservation of B-Jets.
